Pukeora Estate Wine > Pukeora Ruahine Range

Pukeora Ruahine Range Pinot Noir 2011

Fragrant ripe plum and berry aromas followed by elegant, velvety fruit on the palate, with warmth, body and a long finish.

The grapes were handpicked, gently crushed, hand bucketed to open vats and fermented with periodic handplunging. After gentle pressing the wine was aged in French oak barriques for 10 months.

Cellaring: up to 6 years
Alcohol:14.9%

The rugged backdrop of the Ruahine Ranges dominate our horizon, creating a rain shadow and an ideal grape growing climate, so "Ruahine Range" seemed the perfect name for our premier tier of wines.

The vineyard is on the sun baked slopes of our north facing hills which have free draining limestone soils over a clay sub layer. With an elevation of 240m and a latitude of 40o the wine reflects our unique local terroir. (Terroir is a French word meaning the special characteristics that the geography, geology and climate of a place give to its crop, contributing to the unique qualities in that crop. Coming from the word terre, meaning land, it can loosely be translated as "a sense of place".)
